UK eVisa Extension Deadline Extended to March 2025 06 January, 2025
The United Kingdom is transitioning to a digital immigration system, replacing physical documents like Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) with electronic visas (eVisas). Initially, the deadline for this changeover was set for December 31, 2024. However, due to technical challenges and the need for a smoother transition, the UK government has extended the validity of existing physical documents until at least March 31, 2025.
This extension allows individuals more time to switch to the eVisa system without facing immediate travel restrictions. Airlines and carriers have been informed to accept BRPs and Biometric Residence Cards (BRCs) expiring on or after December 31, 2024, as valid for travel until March 2025.
The eVisa system offers several advantages, including enhanced security and the convenience of managing immigration status online. To transition to an eVisa, individuals should create a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account through the official GOV.UK portal. This process is straightforward and free of charge.
The UK government continues to provide guidance and support to ensure a seamless transition to the digital system. Visa holders are encouraged to make the switch promptly to avoid potential issues after the extended deadline.
For more detailed information and assistance, individuals should refer to official UK government resources or consult with immigration professionals.
